Clinical Placement Background Checks
On Jan. 1, 2004, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) instituted new regulations. Organizations, such as hospitals, home health agencies, clinics and other types of health agencies, must abide by these regulations in order to gain or maintain their accreditations.
One of the regulations requires these organizations to conduct a criminal background check on all employees, students and volunteers involved in patient care.
The JCAHO recommends the following background searches:
- Social Security Number Trace (address locator)
- Criminal records in all county/state jurisdictions searched for a seven-year address history
- Criminal records in all federal jurisdictions searched for a seven-year address history
- Combined Office of Inspector General and Government Services Administration (OIG/GSA) report
Our health care package also includes a free search, the Multi-State Sex Offender Registry. Although this search is not yet recommended by the JCAHO, we conduct it because we believe it is important. The Multi-State Sex Offender Registry search includes all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Please note, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) hospitals may require additional services, such as:
- Healthcare Sanctions Registry
- Globalscreen™ Patriot Act Name Search
- Employment Verifications
- Program acceptance, student athletes, training or internship requirements and campus safety student background checks
While there are no background checks specifically required for these areas, we can customize packages. Recommended screenings include:
- Social Security Number Trace
- OmniSearch
- Multi-State Sex Offender Registry
- Office of Inspector General and Government Services Administration (OIG/GSA)
